Alejandro Kuropatwa
Bio
Born in Buenos Aires in 1956. He studied drawing and painting in the workshops of Jorge Dermijian and Oscar Smoje. In 1979 he settled in New York to study photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology and then a master's degree at the Parsons School of Design. In 1985 he returned to Buenos Aires where he set up his studio and portrayed countless personalities of art, culture and rock.
He was awarded the Konex Prize in 1992 and 2002, and the Leonardo Prize by the MNBA in 1996. His Cóctel series presented that year was one of the first works to address the issue of AIDS in Argentina. In 2002 the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes presented Manifiesto, a retrospective exhibition of his work. He died in Buenos Aires in 2003.
