Cristina Matos-Albers
Bio
Cristina Matos-Albers (Venezuela, 1982) is a photographer and visual artist interested in detail, structure and form, and her work frequently experiments with the fine line between registry and art. She conceives light as a subject and not as means by which a photographer creates an image. Her work studies the complexities of color, including light and reflections.
With a B.A. in journalism, Latin American literature, and photography from Ohio Wesleyan University (OH, USA), she moved to New York City where she started working at ABC News. There she started photographing rigorously. She has photographed extensively across Europe and the Americas and continues to participate in important art fairs and exhibitions internationally. She is currently living in Punta del Este, Uruguay, where she divides her time between personal projects, commissioned work, and teaching photography.
Statement
Chroma Morphose es una exploración sobre el color, la transparencia, el balance, el orden pero también sobre la observación detallada. La creación de juegos de colores, luces y sombras, es específica del medio de la fotografía, pero la interpretación dimensional de las escenas construidas explora el ángulo, la forma y el volumen, todos elementos inherentes a la escultura. Las efímeras construcciones solo existen por un breve instante, pues es la cámara la que las vuelve infinitas. La elección de la perspectiva invita al observador a detenerse en la imagen y preguntarse qué es lo que está mirando: ¿cómo se construyó esto?. El objetivo del artista es alentar al espectador a notar fenómenos que no eran evidentes a primera vista. Para ella, ese es el arte de ver con intención.
