Alejandro Kuropatwa

Bio

(Buenos Aires, 1956-2003)
He studied photography in New York at the Fashion Institute of Technology and a master's degree at Parsons School of Design. In 1985 he returned to Buenos Aires and began his professional career specializing in advertising photography and portraits of personalities from the arts, culture and rock music industry.
He was distinguished with the Konex Award in 1996 and 2002, and the Leonardo Award for Photography in 1996. His work has been exhibited in Argentina and abroad, and published in prestigious international magazines.
His series Cocktail, presented in 1996, was one of the first works in Argentina to deal directly with the problem of AIDS and was exhibited at the Camerawork Gallery in San Francisco and the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, among many other venues. In 2002 he presented the retrospective exhibition Manifiesto at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes. In 2005, two years after his death, MALBA presented the exhibition Kuropatwa en technicolor, which toured the country.
